Categories, rules and suggestions

How each transaction gets its category, and how to make Durity learn your vendors.

Every transaction needs a category (Software and subscriptions, Contractors, Sales and so on) before it goes into your statements and tax return.

Where categories come from

  1. Your rules: 'when the description contains GITHUB, use Software and subscriptions'. Add them in Transactions.
  2. Suggestions: Durity suggests a category for anything your rules don't cover. Only the description and amount are used.
  3. You: pick a category yourself on any transaction.
  4. Your accountant confirms every category. Only confirmed categories are final.

Anything that might involve an owner or a related company is asked about in To review instead, because those payments go on Form 5472.
